What to Expect When You Call 211

211 is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When you phone, you’ll hear an introductory message telling you that your call may be recorded for quality assurance. You will then be asked to press ‘1.’

Pressing 1, will take you to a live Information & Referral Specialist. There’s no complicated automated system and most people find they get through quickly without long hold times. The operator will likely ask which area of the city you are calling from and how you heard about 211. This information is used for statistics and reports.

From there, the 211 Specialist will work with you to determine your specific information and referral needs. They will attempt to match you up with referrals for your unique situation. They may also offer to phone you back in seven days. These callbacks allow us to see how well things worked out, offer other referrals if you need more help, and evaluate the effectiveness of the 211 service. We’re constantly looking to improve so feedback from you, the callers, is important to us!
