How to Search the 211 Database

The 211 database can be used to search for information on public, government, and not-for-profit organizations in Edmonton and some surrounding communities.

Follow these guidelines to maximize the effectiveness of your search.

Search by Agency or Program Name

  • Enter the name you are looking for in the topmost box, and press “Submit” to search.
  • Try adding or removing spaces if you do not see what you are looking for.

    “BusLink” vs. “Bus Link”
  • If you are unsure of the full name or of proper spelling, using partial words may be useful.

    “Alzh” will display information on the Alzheimer Society of Alberta

    “Ote” will display information on Oteenow Employment and Training Society


Search by Keyword

  • Keywords are useful if you are looking for resources on a particular topic.

    “shelters”

    “upgrading”
  • Combine multiple Keywords to narrow your results even further.

    “youth shelters”

    “disabled employment”
  • Try different variations if you don’t see what you need.

    “Food” vs. “Hunger” vs. “Meals

     “Jobs” vs. “Employment
  • Use a Keyword with a Name search to narrow results further.

    Name: “Community”, Keyword: “Counseling”

    Name: “Aboriginal”, Keyword: “Employment”

  • Use age range to narrow your search.
     
  • Use fee type to find free or sliding-scale options for low-income individuals.
